Marilyn and I are very old-fashioned when it comes to watching television. In our minds it’s an activity for the evening. There are a couple of exceptions: I like to get the News headlines in the morning, we might watch a game show while we’re having lunch and, once upon a time, we would have it on all day to watch the cricket.
But now, when we are retired and in self-imposed isolation during this pandemic, we still find it difficult to justify filling in the long daylight hours with visual entertainment. We read instead, or I write while Marilyn does chores and so on.
However, I complained to Marilyn that we were getting behind in our TV watching and our backlog of shows we didn’t want to miss was getting out of hand. Taking a deep breath, we agreed we would indulge in a bit of binge-watching to catch up.
Our first show was Around the World in Eighty Days with David Tennant - eight episodes of about an hour each and we knocked it off in two sessions. Spurred on by our success, we turned to a series on Acorn called Under the Vines. It was only 6 episodes of about 45 minutes each and we completed that in one go.
We feel we’re getting good at this; maybe we’ll be able to start on our backlog of must-see movies soon.
